Late Afternoon in Navarre Beach – Florida Fall 2023

This is the second time in my life that I have made a trip to an exact, same Florida beach within the same calendar year.  This trip to Navarre Beach was the first of its occurrence since 2015 (Daytona Beach in May and October of that year).  This time, the seas are angrier, the sun was setting, and I wore jeans for the first time since spring so that I am more comfortable outside in relatively cooler temperatures.  Thank goodness that there was no rain that late afternoon.

Witches Ride 2023 – Ocean Springs, Mississippi

Witches Ride is an annual, Halloween event that is held within downtown Ocean Springs every final Saturday evening in October.  Participants and spectators dress up in their “witchy” best as they walk, pedal, ride, or stand throughout the downtown district.  It’s downtown Ocean Springs’ version of “trick or treat”.

**At the end of the video, please see my “witchy” best for this year’s event.

Normal Autumn Noontime vs. Eclipse Autumn Noontime

Here is the scene on a typical, sunny, October day in Ocean Springs, MS.  However, there was a partial solar eclipse that covered about 60-70 percent of the sunlight by the moon three days prior (October 14, 2023) to when this video was taped (October 17, 2023).

This video shows the comparisons with the eclipse video version in the upper left corner of the screen. Was the eclipse really different compared to normal?

Partial Solar Eclipse – Ocean Springs, MS – 10.14.2023

This partial solar eclipse that happened in Ocean Springs, MS was part of the annular solar eclipse that occurred from Oregon to the Four Corners to Texas to the Yucatán to Brazil.  Approximately 60-70 percent of the sunlight was obscured by the moon.  This created some unique shadows and some dimming of this clear sky.

The next partial solar eclipse in Ocean Springs, MS will occur on April 08, 2024.  However, people in parts of northern México, the U.S. from Texas to Missouri to Ohio to New York to Vermont to Maine, and Atlantic Canada will see a TOTAL solar eclipse meaning the moon completely obscures the Sun.

Recent Rains Turned Some Grass Greener

Summer 2023 was one for the record books as a long, hot and parched season.  Normally, afternoon storms keep the grass green and growing quickly.  However, it was brown and short this year with the assistance of sunshine and high pressure.

Fortunately, the rain has made some appearances in recent weeks, and the wet conditions brought some of the grass back to life.  This video shows the greener grass in comparison to the scene back in August 2023.

The Rain Has Returned

Summer 2023 was one for the record books as a long, hot and parched season.  Normally, afternoon storms keep the grass green and growing quickly.  However, it has been brown and short this year with the assistance of sunshine and high pressure.

Fortunately, the rain has made its appearance, and the wet conditions may be more frequent due to an overdue change in the weather pattern.  Here is the wet scene.

Using Sidewalk Chalk with Storms Nearby

I have formally returned to my Mississippi Gulf Coast home on this channel after my May vacations to Indiana and Florida along with my sunset beach excursion in Gulfport. I show you some designs I created with my sidewalk chalk that are relevant for CPWN and at least one physical activity that I often execute. There was also one potent thunderstorm that wanted to ruin my artwork that evening.
